FLUSH - The Documentary
Director and Producer: Karina Mangu-Ward
Karina Mangu-Ward is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker and media producer. She uses non-fiction film, interactive content, and social networking to spread big ideas. Her feature documentary FLUSH raises awareness about how toilets and sewer systems work in the US, and increases citizen advocacy for more sustainable solutions at the local level. She has directed content and strategy for ArtsFwd.org, a platform for arts and culture leaders about innovative new approaches to the persistent challenges facing the sector. She produced “Made Here” (www.madehereproject.org), an online documentary project featuring 30 short films about the life/work balance of New York City artists, featured on Hulu. Her work also includes a webseries, short films, and commercial advertising. MFA Columbia. AB Harvard College.

Maxine Trump worked as the writer and editor of FLUSH and has directed two feature documentaries of her own. TO KID OR NOT TO KID, due for release in 2018 breaks the myth that if you don't have children you're weird selfish or somehow wrong. Her last feature documentary Musicwood, was a New York Times Critics' Pick, a festival award-winner and played in theaters, on airlines and TV networks around the world. Maxine has directed short documentaries for the TV network TNT, Sundance Channel, BBC, TLC etc. She worked for the BBC in London for seven years as a development executive for scripted comedy before emmigrating to the USA, working as a TV commercial director and producer for eight years. She won BDA awards for her work on numerous commercial projects for Network TV and agency clients, including AMC, National Geographic, PBS, BBC America, Animal Planet, Comedy Central, American Cancer Society, L'Oreal, Oreos etc.
Maxine is on the selection committee for DOC NYC and Nantucket film festival, a Manhattan chapter leader of the Non-profit film group Filmshop, the author of the documentary guide "Diving into Documentaries" and teaches documentary filmmaking at the New York Film Academy, She holds an MFA from London Metropolitan University, lives in Brooklyn, NY and continues to direct her own feature documentaries as well as producing and editing for feature documentary clients.

Executive Director: Shawn Shafner
Shawn Shafner is an artist, educator and activist. Creator of The People's Own Organic Power Project (www.thePOOPproject.org), he has catalyzed conversation about sustainable sanitation from NYC's largest wastewater treatment plant to the United Nations. Shawn was a 2014-15 LABA Fellow, 2014-15 iLAND/LMCC resident, 2017 Global Social Impact House fellow through UPenn's Center for Social Impact Strategy, 2017 summer resident to the Art Monastery Project, and a member of the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Foundation's ROI Community. Shawn is also a teaching artist, curriculum developer, and consultant for cultivating creativity, mindfulness and joy.

Veronique is an actor/producer based in NYC. She is the founding artistic director of Athena Theatre, a non-profit dedicated to developing new plays since 2002. www.AthenaTheatre.com
