Combined Sewer Origami Brigade
Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) spill 27 billion gallons of pollution into NYC's waterways each year, limiting the potential for recreation, wreaking havoc on local ecology, and leaving the city in violation of 1972's Clean Water Act. It's time for New York to follow the fold. The Combined Sewer Origami Brigade is a massive chain of 2,700 origami birds, fish, boats and more created from old newspapers and plastic bags. Each craft represents 10 million gallons of yearly sewage overflow, a citizen doing their part by limiting what goes down the drain during wet weather, and a powerful advocacy tool.
